Alvira’s Table is dedicated to upholding cultural legacies that risk being lost to time. In many Appalachian households, heritage was shared through spoken word rather than written records. My grandmother inherited her knowledge from her parents and grandparents, who lived in harmony with the land and cooked from their own gardens. These dishes represented far more than simple nourishment; they were a profound expression of our family's history and identity. Our Story
My name is Charmaine Patterson, and I’m honored to carry forward what began in my grandmother’s kitchen. From the earliest days, I stood by her side as she prepared for local events and family gatherings, learning not just recipes but the meaning behind them. Those moments of storytelling, laughter, and shared meals shaped me. Inspired by that foundation, I pursued formal education in both business and culinary arts to refine my skills.
